02 · Review completes
Integrity, facts, and clearance are tested
Checksums are verified, names and dates are checked, public cuts are separated from restricted masters, and every exclusion is logged.
03 · Accession closes
The file receives a permanent number
A MET-YYYY-CLS-NNNN reference names the holding, its class, its registrar, its rights position, and its open exceptions.
04 · The museum opens
Only the cleared public label is exhibited
Visitors see the citation, context, and permitted-use summary. Restricted masters and private identifiers stay behind the wall.

Reading a label
What every exhibit must disclose
- 01Accession reference — the permanent name of the record.
- 02Creator and depositor — who made it and who had authority to place it.
- 03Capture and verification dates — when it entered, and when it was checked.
- 04Rights summary — what may be done with it, in plain sight.
- 05Restriction note — what is withheld, and why.
- 06Citation — the exact string others reproduce when they reference it.
Museum rules
- No unpublished, restricted, or contested file is exhibited as a finished holding.
- The public label never exposes tax identifiers, government identifiers, private contact details, or unreleased masters.
- A shot list, transcript, release, or review memo can be an exhibit when it explains the life of the work.
- Corrections are dated addenda. The museum does not silently rewrite the record.
- Every exhibit links back to the Handbook gates that admitted it.
